MBT Example of Play (Part 2): Advanced Game AP Combat

Continuing the AP Direct Fire example from the Basic Game, everything remains the same with the exception of the Hit screen-shot-2016-10-17-at-2-39-30-pmAngle, Hit Location and Damage determinations. It is determined that the M2A1 Bradley’s Rear/Side Hit Angle is applicable [in the Advanced Game there are four hit angles (six when including the mirrored right and left sides)].

The Soviet player rolls (100) for a second time with a result of 24 [rolls two different colored 10-sided dice]. The 2 tens result indicates a TS [turret side] Hit Location. Comparing the Penetration Factor of 12 [circled in red on the BMP-2 card] to the Armor Factor of 11 [circled in black on the M2A1 Bradley card], the shot penetrated. The 4 units result indicates that the Bradley is damaged [circled in blue on the BMP-2 data card]. The M2A1 Bradley is marked with a Turret Dmgd counter [damaged counter with the “Turret” side facing front].

Since it suffered damage, the M2A1 Bradley must check for Bail Out; it has Seasoned Unit Grade. The US player rolls (100). The result is 57; there is no modifier. Since 57 is greater than 30, the crew stays put [had the result been 30 or less, the M2A1 Bradley’s crew would have bailed out effectively putting the vehicle’s out of action].

It is determined that the BMP-2’s Front Hit Angle is applicable. The US player rolls (100) with a result of 57. The 5 tens result indicates a HF [hull front] Hit Location. Comparing the Penetration Factor of 12 [circled in red on the M2A1 Bradley card] to the Armor Factor of 4 [circled in black on the BMP-2 card], the shot penetrated. The 7 units result indicates that the BMP-2 is Knocked Out [circled in blue on the M2A1 Bradley data card]. The BMP-2’s counter (and any other counters) is removed from play and replaced with a KO counter [Knocked Out counter].

  1. Hello I’m learning the game right now, but have a problem. In the Bradley, in the fields for the kind of protection with which is equiped, read “KE or CE”. What does it means? I interpred that I can choose one or the other… but if I choose CE type reactive armor, which kind of it?? x2 x1.5 or x1.25?

    thanks for help

  2. Where you find “KE or CE” listed in the Defensive Information section of the Bradley’s data card it means that the armor values as listed are apply against KE or CE type shells. It doesn’t mean that the Bradley is equipped with any type of special armor, which it isn’t. Compare it to the M1 Abrams data card where it lists CEx2, indicating it is equipped with special armor effective against CE-type shells at x2 value. Reference section 6.5.2.4 AP Ammo Types & Special Armor of the rules.
