Weekend at the Warehouse CANCELLED for April, 2020

March 12, 2020

Dear Customers and Friends,

In light of the ongoing spread of the COVID-19 virus, our determination to not put the health of our customers or employees at risk, and in compliance with the latest directions from the governor of the state of California, we have decided to cancel our April Weekend at the Warehouse event.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. We know that many of you were really looking forward to attending this event and enjoying four days of gaming fun. As you know, we very much enjoy hosting this event, as well. But we feel that it is a small sacrifice for all of us to give up our fun for a weekend out of an abundance of caution in order to protect the health of our employees and our customers and long-time friends.

We look forward to seeing all of you at our October Weekend later this year. We’ll update you with more details on timing for that event in the coming months. I’ll have updated information for you on our overall operations in next week’s March customer update.

Wishing you all the best,

Gene

GMT Weekend at the Warehouse
April 23-26, 2020

We had a great time with about 115 gamers at our most recent GMT Weekend at the Warehouse On October 17-20. Thanks to all of you who attended and made the event so much fun!

We do now have dates for our Spring 2020 Weekend, so come join us on April 23-26, 2020, for our 39th (!) GMT Weekend at the Warehouse! We’ll spend the better part of 3 1/2 days, often long into the night, playing your favorite GMT (and non-GMT, if you’d prefer) games. This is mostly an open gaming event, although we do have tournaments from time to time.

Gaming starts around 8 each morning and goes until Mike Lam and the Down in Flames Aces event players collapse from exhaustion in the wee hours of the morning.

Quite a few GMT Designers and Developers usually attend these weekends, and we should have a bunch of them attending this time! Here’s a current list – we’ll update as we get closer to the event.

  • John Butterfield will be in attendance demoing SpaceCorp and SpaceCorp:Ventures.
  • Mike Bertucelli will be here to help players learn Tank Duel and Gene’s Mr. President and to show Wolfpack, his latest design. Feel free to contact Mike if you’d like to reserve a spot in a 4-player test game.
  • Jason Carr will be here showing off a variety of game’s he’s co-designing or developing, including some new COIN titles, The Weimar Republic,  and Labyrinth; Forever War.
  • Bruce Mansfield will attend. He’ll be helping players enjoy Gandhi and testing upgraded bots for COIN games.
  • Kai Jensen
  • Jerry White and Gina Willis will be playtesting and demoing their new solitaire co-design.
  • Luke Billingsley will be demoing Red Flag Over Paris.
  • Kurt Keckley
  • Gene Billingsley
  • As usual, Mike Lam will be running the Down in Flames Aces Event – which.is.awesome! Come join Mike and a friendly group of air enthusiasts in this fast-action card game of aerial mayhem!

Designers/Developers: If you plan to attend but aren’t currently on the list, please let me know and I’ll add you right away. – Gene

Now that the 6th printing of Paths of Glory is out, it’s time to launch the next play-by-email tournament of this classic game. This will be the eight iteration of the Boardgame Players Association (BPA) sponsored event and, for those on the fence, bear in mind it only runs every three years. Enlist now or be prepared to be on the sidelines for awhile.

The BPA VII event that started in 2016 is still winding down but we drew 115 participants for round 1, the largest field ever for a BPA wargame play-by-email tournament. Will BPA VIII surpass that? Maybe, if you do your bit.

Paths of Glory VIII Tournament Summary

  • The Paths of Glory sixth edition rules and historical scenario are in effect.
  • This is a double elimination event.  All contestants joining in Round 1 will get to play at least two games.
  • Players of all skill and experience levels are welcome, approximately 25% of the participants will be new to organized play.
  • First round registration goes through February 1st, 2019 with the first round matches commencing in mid-February.
  • Each round will last about 3.5 months – the pace may be relaxed but the competition will be fierce but friendly.
  • BPA membership is required. (If you are not a BPA member, your “Associate” membership fee of $10 gets you access to all BPA PBEM tournament events.)

More details, including links to game rules and resources, can be found on the POG tournament page.  Drop an e-mail to the GM, Tom Gregorio to indicate your interest.  NOW is the time to sign up, do not delay!

We hope to see you on the battlefield,

Tom Gregorio
