Below is the eighth in a series of articles from Mark McLaughlin showcasing the ten civilizations in Ancient Civilizations of the Inner Sea. The first seven articles can be found here, here, herehere, here, here, and here. Enjoy!

The Mauretanian peoples of North Africa were justly feared for their prowess on horseback and envied for their ability to cross the Sahara to bring gold, salt and slaves to the other civilizations of the Mediterranean.  Both these traits are given their due in Ancient Civilizations of the Inner Sea.

During the Growth Phase at the start of each turn, the Mauretanians gain a bonus Tile to place and are eligible to gain a bonus Talent.  The first is used to build settlements and cities or establish a presence at sea, while the second may be expended in lieu of losing a Tile to Card play or Competition, or towards the purchase of Cards and Victory Points, as well as the building of Wonders.  In Competition, they gain a bonus White Tile – in homage to the fame of their light horsemen who were second to none to scouting out and  harrying the flanks and rear of enemy armies.
