Ancient Civilizations of the Inner Sea: Meet the Egyptians

Below is the third in a series of articles from Mark McLaughlin showcasing the ten civilizations in Ancient Civilizations of the Inner Sea. The first and second articles can be found here and here. Enjoy!

The power and majesty of the Pharaohs was built upon the gift of the Nile – the bountiful harvests of the rich farmlands watered by the great river and replenished by its floods.

Ancient Civilizations of the Inner Sea replicates this bounty by giving the Egyptian Civilization not only one but up to two bonus Tiles during Growth Phases, as well as a bonus Talent if there is a city in one of the three Areas of the map through which the Nile flows.

Egypt, like most other Civilizations in the game, has two close neighbors – Phoenicia and Minos.  Both are sea-going powers, and if both are present can hem Egypt in to its corner of the map.

Even so, the bonuses gained from building up along the Nile can give Egypt the numbers and wealth to break out from its corner and to spread north into the Levant and west along the African coast. Egypt’s strong resilient position is not only evident in the God Kings of Egypt Historical Wargame Scenario, a position strongly challenged by the ferocious invader besetting it; but in any game where Egypt is in play. It is a power to be carefully watched and reckoned with.
