Introducing Wing Leader: Origins

It’s time for another rodeo! A new Wing Leader expansion, the third, goes into pre-order! Here’s a quick introduction from the designer.

Wing Leader: Origins explores new corners of World War 2, such as Poland and the Netherlands, as well as pre-war battles, including China and Spain. I’ll be posting more on the content in the coming months, but in the meantime some questions answered:

Wing Leader: Eagles Scenarios, Part 1

Scenario design is an art, and one that we’ve been perfecting over more than four years of Wing Leader development. Maybe it’s time to describe what we’ve learned through the lens of the scenarios we have built. The new late-war expansion set, Wing Leader: Eagles, features some of our most advanced scenarios yet, and this article will examine some of what you can look forward to.

Wing Leader: Eagles – The New Aircraft, Part 3

In Parts 1 and 2 we looked at the new German, Japanese, Soviet and American aircraft appearing in Wing Leader: Eagles. It’s great to see a mixture of late-war curios and hot-rods finally make it into the game. However, there are two more nations–one a surprise entry in a World War 2 game–that contribute data cards to the new expansion module.

Wing Leader: Eagles – The New Aircraft, Part 2

In Part 1, we looked at the some of the new German and Japanese aircraft appearing in Wing Leader: Eagles. Some of these were second-stringers in the air war, but played a major part in some really interesting battles. The Allies also have a bunch of new aeroplanes ready for the fray, which we look at in the profiles below.

Certain tactical games have always scratched the collector’s itch. It’s not enough to play with the ships/tanks/planes in the game you have, you have to have the expansions, you gotta catch ’em all! Wing Leader was designed to both irritate and salve that itch, and in Wing Leader: Eagles, we expand upon the late war kit from Wing Leader: Supremacy with a mixture of crowd-pleasers and oddballs.

Wing Leader Second Edition: Combat Analysis, Part 2

In Part 1 I looked at how changes to second edition of Wing Leader: Victories affected air combat. In this second part I break down how the tweaks to bombing affect the results of air-to-ground attacks.

If air combat has barely changed since the first edition, the bombing system has evolved significantly. The rules haven’t changed radically, and mostly comprise minor fixes. However, the ratings and modifiers, the underlying numbers, have changed a lot.

Wing Leader Second Edition: Combat Analysis, Part 1

As Wing Leader progresses towards publication of the second edition of Victories (2e), it’s worth looking at the how the changes affect the combat outcomes. As an analysis of the combat systems has never before been published, it’s worth spending some time looking at this in detail.

Second Edition Wing Leader: Should You Purchase?

When a second edition of a game comes three years after the first, any explanation as to why turns into an extended mea culpa. I have to sell you, the punter, on why you want to drop your hard-earned dough on the new edition of Wing Leader: Victories.
