Apocalypse Road: The Essendarium – Part 2

“Welcome back to the Essendarium, the ongoing recap of the final race in the Apocalypse Road series where I will be revealing the teams of Apocalypse Road, the cars and the stories behind the game, both fictional and real. These first few articles will be covering the various teams in Apocalypse Road and possibly some background on who is behind them and how they turned out the way they did. Some of the teams still have openings for sponsorships and I will make those clear in the story. In addition I will be providing a pathway to join the Thunderverse by sponsoring a driver or a team or even a track. I do this to allow you, the fan to become a part of the game and at the same time provide a small revenue stream for Carla and myself that we use to print prototypes and attend conventions where we get more chances to interact with you. I will try to minimize these opportunities for those of you that are not interested in them. Thanks for your patience.” – Jeff Horger

Apocalypse Road: The Essendarium — Part 1

Hello, over the next few articles I will be revealing the teams of Apocalypse Road, the cars and the stories behind the game, both fictional and real. These first few articles will be covering the various teams in Apocalypse Road and possibly some background on who is behind them and how they turned out the way they did. Some of the teams still have openings for sponsorships and I will make those clear in the story. In addition, I will be providing you a pathway to join the Thunderverse by sponsoring a driver or a team or even a track. I do this to allow you, the fan, to become a part of the game and at the same time provide a small revenue stream for Carla and myself that we use to print prototypes and attend conventions where we get more chances to interact with you. I will try to minimize these opportunities for those of you that are not interested in them. Thanks for your patience! – Jeff Horger

The Price of Speed: Movement Events in Apocalypse Road

As I have mentioned before, Events in Apocalypse Road are handled differently than in Thunder Alley or Grand Prix. Waiting for everyone to move all their cars didn’t seem to be exciting enough, and resolving an event after every car was too much and too chaotic. What Carla & I settled on is an occurrence of events based on the speed of the cards you use.

Apocalypse Road – What’s in a Name

So far on InsideGMT we have covered the design process and how Carla and I managed to get from Thunder Alley to Apocalypse Road. We have discussed why we did it. We wrote about mistakes that we made. We have written about the “eureka” moments of finding not only what works but what works and is also cool. And we have described how the game plays. Stig has guided us through a pretty extensive After Action Report that highlighted many of the features of the game. Thanks Stig. To be honest I’m wracking my brain to find mechanical topics to write about. It really appears that the details are out there. For me the key now is to get this game into the market and let it speak for itself. That is going to require me to find some way to convert a few more of you into backers that will hop on the P500 and make this thing take-off.

Ladies and Gentlemen! Load your guns and start your engines! The Apocalypse Road Beckons!

You´ve seen your Thunder Alley buddies link up with the other lane, and thereby leaving your car alone, activated and ultimately lapped in turn 1 on Saint Adriana. Your words “…but we had a deal…” seemingly lost to your buddies.

You´ve seen your Grand Prix buddies move the entire field past you with NPCs and conditional linking and thereby ending all your hopes of a podium on Vasal Towers. Your words “…but why go after me, I wasn´t even leading…” seemingly lost to your buddies.

What can you do?

Surviving the Apocalypse

Last time I was on here I probably disappointed some of those that care about Apocalypse Road by dashing their hopes that players could customize cars right from the start. Today, let me make up for that a bit by trying to provide you some strategies and tips I have noticed over a couple of years of testing.
