Racing Season Never Ends in the Thunderverse

Hi everyone, it’s been a long time since I have brought any news of the Thunder Alley Racing Series to you. As some of you know, we have been using some play testers for various components and add-ons to the game series. These include bringing new tracks, new expansions, and solo play to the collection. Carla & I have been toying with ideas, including some of those presented to us by the fantastic Richard Launius, to help make each of the games even better than they are now. These ideas consist of league play, new Racing Decks, new events, new teams, “build your own” cars, and even an entirely new game with a new style of racing. This is just sort of our update to you on what is going on with the Thunder Alley Racing Series this year and into the future.

First off are the tracks. We are making a range of new tracks. The exciting part is that each of these tracks are designed to be used with each game in the series. There will be a Thunder Alley friendly portion of the track, a Grand Prix extension, and an associated Apocalypse Road course complete with jumps and dirt on each track. This will allow for the tracks to be useful to any player no matter if they are only die-hard stock car racers or immersed in the entire series. Each track from here on in will have something for everyone. Some of these very roughly drawn sample tracks are shown below. Trust me, my primitive etchings are not close to the final product.

Apocalypse Road: The Essendarium – Part 11, The Final Chapter

Get your motor runnin’
Head out on the highway
Lookin’ for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin’ with the wind
And the feelin’ that I’m under
Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature’s child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild

Get your motor runnin’
Head out on the highway
Lookin’ for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature’s child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild

Apocalypse Road: The Essendarium – Part 10, Slam the Hammer Down

“Spoken
Hey you – You up there – Yeah you
Can you hear me? I said, I said can you hear me?
Don’t you listen to me when I’m talking to you?
If you can’t go for it, you can’t go for it good!
And that means you ain’t gonna get away from what you got comin’!

She’s a cool kinda mama – Sure gonna slam the hammer down
When the pistons are pumping – Sure gonna slam the hammer down
Oh when the body starts to shake it’s time to loosen off the brake
And slam it down

Push the pedal to the metal – Sure gonna slam the hammer down
Gonna burn up the rubber – Sure gonna slam the hammer down
The chequered flag won’t make you stop,
You keep on going ’til you drop and slam it down

Keep a moving and motor racing and the wheels go round and round
Oh when you win you’ll be celebrating, ready to slam the hammer on down
Got a flash little chassis
The crowd screams when you slam the hammer down

First, second, third and fourth
Into top and slam the hammer down
You know it’s getting all too much
When you’re letting out the clutch
And slam it down

Keep a moving accelerating
And you’re waiting to face the crowd
Now you’re opening up a wide gap
Ready to slam the hammer on down

Apocalypse Road: The Essendarium – Part 9, Start Me Up

“If you start me up
If you start me up I’ll never stop
I’ve been running hot
You got me ticking gonna blow my top
If you start me up
If you start me up I’ll never stop
You make a grown man cry
Spread out the oil, the gasoline
I walk smooth, ride in a mean, mean machine
Start it up
If you start it up
Kick on the starter give it all you got, you got, you got
I can’t compete with the riders in the other heats
If you rough it up
If you like it you can slide it up, slide it up
Don’t make a grown man cry
My eyes dilate, my lips go green
My hands are greasy
She’s a mean, mean machine
Start it up
If start me up
Give it all you got
You got to never, never, never stop
Never, never
Slide it up
You make a grown man cry
Ride like the wind at double speed
I’ll take you places that you’ve never, never seen
Start it up
Love the day when we will never stop, never stop
Never stop, never stop
Tough me up
Never stop, never stop, never stop
You, you, you make a grown man cry”

Apocalypse Road: The Essendarium – Part 8, Ready to Explode

Commentator:
Hello and welcome to what looks like being a very exciting race today
Among the top drivers are Noddy Holder of the Brahms and Lizst Cup
His team mate is one of Britain’s wildest fellows, James Lea. Let’s hope his accident record can be overcome today. And now, just coming down the straight in the all familiar black and gold colours, Dave Hill, one of motor racing’s true Super Yob’s. His team mate is Don Powell. And my goodness me from where I’m sitting it looks as though they’re ready to explode!

Driver:
Sitting here in my mean machine – I’m ready to explode
Looking out of my helmet at the faces
I been wondering all night long, if I will live or die…yeah
It’s always the same before the races

Commentator:
I got some hot line information about the man who’s occupation
Is driving the cars. Standing out there on the grid
And it’s a kind of fascination and it demands full concentration
The kind of a job we all dreamed of as a kid

Driver:
I can see on the track ahead, the heat is rising high
Gotta win for the team and it’s never easy
I been feeling the butterflies, strapped into my seat…yeah
And already the tension’s getting to me

Commentator:
We’re waiting in anticipation for some official indication
They’re ready to go. Revving up and hit the road
Cos it’s another big occasion and there won’t be no relaxation
They’re ready to go and they’re Ready to Explode

Driver:
You’re gonna drive ’em round the bend
Have a go on the chicane
Gonna drive ’em round the bend
Without a warning…
Ready now to explode

Commentator:
And now the cars are on the grid and it looks like today’s conditions
Couldn’t be better for a great race. We’re just waiting for the starter
Mister Slade to give the O.K. There goes the green light and they’re off!

Who’s gonna be the big sensation. Who’ll be the champion of the nation
In one of them cars standing out there on the grid
He’s gonna get a big ovation. Be the champion of the nation
The kind of a thrill we all dreamed of as a kid

I don’t wanna break down and I wanna explode
Don’t lemme break down, don’t lemme break down
Don’t lemme break down
I wanna explode – I wanna explode – I wanna explode – I wanna explode

Driver:
Ever since I was just thirteen I had a crazy reoccurring dream
To be faster than the speed of sound
It was the only way to get around…oh yeah
Speeding in my dreams – Speeding in my dreams
Seventeen and I passed my test, never settling for second best
I knew right away what I’d like – It was a 750 motorbike…oh yeah
Speeding in my dreams – Speeding in my dreams
Oh yeah…Oh yeah…Oh yeah
I was living for speed
L..L..L..Living for speed
I was living for
I was living for speed…
Explode…explode….

Apocalypse Road: The Essendarium – Part 7

“This is part 7 of the fictionalized Essendarium replay. Today we complete the team run-down and prepare for the race itself next week. Since we have crossed the 500 mark and the game is ready to roll into the art department, it is just a matter of time before we start working on the finished product. That said, if you want to become a part of the Thunderverse, your opportunities are drawing to an end.”

Apocalypse Road: The Essendarium – Part 4

“Great news, great news! In case you were unaware, Apocalypse Road has reached the 500 mark between the writing of this article and the previous one. It is my firm belief that once Apocalypse Road enters the ‘wild’ that word of mouth will spread and it will do very well among people that are not frequenters of the GMT P500. Essentially taking the same path as Thunder Alley but maybe with even more appeal to those that might overlook a stock car theme. We played the game over the weekend to celebrate the achievement and I remembered just how enjoyable it was. All of the hard work put in by Carla and myself over the past three years really paid off. Rest assured, the game is complete and ready to go and the instant Mark asks me if we are ready, the answer will be a resounding YES.”

Apocalypse Road: The Essendarium – Part 3

“Welcome back to the Essendarium, the ongoing recap of the final race in the Apocalypse Road series where I will be revealing the teams of Apocalypse Road, the cars and the stories behind the game, both fictional and real. These first few articles will be covering the various teams in Apocalypse Road and possibly some background on who is behind them and how they turned out the way they did. Some of the teams still have openings for sponsorships and I will be providing you a pathway to join the Thunderverse by sponsoring a driver or a team or even a track. Carla & I do this to allow you to become a part of the game and at the same time provide a small revenue stream for Carla and myself that we use to print prototypes and attend conventions where we get more chances to interact with you. Thanks for your patience” – Jeff Horger
