January 2026 Tank Pack #2 Update

Missed last month’s update, but that means more for this one!

First, I want to reiterate this project is more than getting Tank Pack #2 out the door, it includes:

  • Updating Tank Duel:  Enemy in the Crosshairs to a 2nd Edition (incorporating rule changes from the various expansions, known errata/clarifications, et cetera.)
  • The 2nd Edition Update Kit to bring 1st Edition Tank Duel:  Enemy in the Crosshairs to the 2nd Edition.
  • There’s more going on behind the scenes.  Some stuff not in the games will be updated (think webpages) and other things are being talked about, but they’re too speculative to mention at this time.

Next update will have more details on the 2nd Edition/Update Kit and how Tank Pack #2 fits into in a world with a 1st Edition & 2nd Edition.  It will also include get a 1st Edition up to 2nd Edition standards.

Second, here’s the details on stuff that’s gone to art.

  • Tank Boards – They’re officially done!  There are 13 new tanks in Tank Pack #2; 7 Soviet and 6 German.  Here’s the specific on the tank boards/tank mix:

With this expansion Tank Duel has a total of 46 different tanks!  The breakdown:  Germans/Italians = 22 different models, Soviets = 15 different models, and US/UK = 9 different models.

  • Cards – They’re in art, but aren’t officially done yet.  There is a new type of Man-Made terrain, “Stone Wall.”  It’s about what you’d expect, pretty good cover & conceal numbers, and a good hull down number.  The other new cards are Soviet and German Anti-Infantry cards covering the new tanks.  May have more on the cards next update.

Third, re:  Scenarios.  Currently there is:  one new base scenario, six historical scenarios, and a Mini-Campaign.  The scenarios have been polished and are just about to go to validation playtesting.  In general, they have been enhanced to be more flexible regarding:  a) number of players; b) number of tanks; c) optional & advanced rules, d) available expansions; and e) the specific tanks in the order of battle (giving players a choice in tanks, particularly if other expansions are available).  The plan to have more details on the Scenarios & Mini-Campaign(s) next update.  The Mini-Campaign is being finalized and we’re looking at adding a second Mini-Campaign, but page constraints on Tank Pack #2 may preclude it “being in the box.”  Might end up as a downloadable print and play if it doesn’t fit?

Fourth, re:  Rules.  The Tank Pack #2 rules will include the changes to the base game found in the North Africa Expansion (not the optional/advanced AT Gun, Infantry, Minefields, or Weather/Ground Condition rules) and those necessary for the Tank Pack #2 tanks (which are minimal).

That’s it for this month,

Chris
