The second edition of Illusions of Glory: The Great War on the Eastern Front (“IoG”) is currently on the P500 list.
Links to prototype unit counters, player aid cards, mapboard, rules, and playbook can be found on the IoG webpage.
I’ve seen some remarks that playing Italy in IoG doesn’t look like much fun. On the contrary, it is.
In addition to the initial Italian deployment, there are the following reinforcements:
Italy has 11 additional corps to bring into play. So, the Allied Powers player will have more units to reinforce the Italian Front than his adversary. He can be as aggressive as he wants in order to inflict losses on Central Powers units. This can force the CP player to weaken his other fronts or suffer a breakthrough.
It sure looks like fun. Try this on “Illusions of Glory, 2nd Edition”.
Luigi Cadorna, is that you ?
I’m just joking, but it is true that geography rules this small theater, and there aren’t a lot of options to take. I would add, though, that if you don’t want to take too many losses as Italy (they do add up, and deteriorate troop quality) staying on the defensive in the Alps and instead transfer armies to the Balkans and pushing northward there is also an option.
I was expecting a deeper view on the subject promised in the title. We all are supposed to know that there are reinforcements on its way. Any suggestion besides on being agressive?
