Below is an mini-campaign scenario for Battles of the Warrior Queen that comes from one of our customers, Vladimir Vladov. While the GMT-version scenario intends to recreate and simulate historical events, the mini-campaign scenario that Vladimir and his friends used simulates all three battles in succession as part of a whole campaign. He was happy to share this scenario with us and with all of you so feel free to use it and enjoy! -Rachel
The idea of this mini-campaign scenario is to play all three battles as part of a whole campaign and each one will have considerable impact on the next.
There are also some changes in the number of units participating in each battle:
Roman army
Auxiliary units are added to each legion, which was usual practice at that time;
It is possible the II legion to participate in the battle of Bannaventa.
Briton army
Alternative evaluation of the numbers of Boudicca army is used in this campaign. Suppose that both Tacitus and Dio were right, but they have ten times exaggerated the real numbers. Thus in the battle of Camulodunum the Briton army numbered 10,000, and at Bannaventa 23,000. It is possible that the need of reinforcements prevented Boudicca to attack the Romans before they concentrated their forces.
For the battle of Mona Insulis the number of Ordovici units is increased. It seems proper, because they were more numerous than the Decleangi and caused more problems to the Romans.
Battle of Camulodunum
Battle order of the Briton army
Boudicca, queen of the Iceni, Galchobhar Iceni chief;
Iceni BI (1-4); Iceni LI (1-5); Iceni LI-S (1-2); Iceni LC (1-4);
Teutorigos Trinovanti chief;
Trinovanti BI (1-3); Trinovanti LI (1-4), Trinovanti LI-S (1-2);
Briton CH (1-4 from C:CoG);
Deployment of the Briton army – anywhere west of line 2822-2844;
Battle order of the Roman army
Legion IX Hispana
Petillius Cerialis legate, G. Valerius military tribune;
IX Hispana CO (1-10), Scorpio (1), Balearic SK-S (5), Numidia SK-A (6);
Auxiliaries all from C:CoG
Donnerus Macromani chief
Macromani BI (4-7); Macromani LI (2-3); Gaul RC (1), Gaul LN (1);
Deployment of the Roman army – anywhere east of line 2222-2244;
First the Briton player deploys his units secretly from the Roman player and hides them under a sheet of paper. Then the Roman player deploys his army. Then the positions of the Briton forces are revealed. The Romans start first.
The duration of the battle is 24 turns, each corresponds to half hour.
Conditions of victory
The Romans win if:
Boudicca, Galchobhar and Teutorigos are killed or wounded or compelled to leave the battlefield;
If 12 of the 20 Briton infantry and cavalry units are eliminated or routed (even if rallied) or compelled to leave the battlefield, the skirmishers are not counted;
The Roman victory ends the Boudicca’s revolt, no need to fight Bannaventa. To win the campaign the Roman player has to defeat only the druid army at Mona Insulis.
The Britons win if:
Cerialis and Valerius are killed or wounded or compelled to leave the battlefield;
If 7 of the 10 cohorts of the IX legion are eliminated or routed (even if rallied), or compelled to leave the battlefield, scorpion and auxiliaries are not counted;
If at the end of the 24th turn all Roman and auxiliary units have retreated in the woods. It is presumed that Romans retreating through the woods would be easy prey for the barbarians.
In the first two cases the Roman army has to retreat to the western edge of the map from the next turn. During the retreat the Romans may attack enemy units only if they block their way.
After the retreat the Roman player has to throw saving dice for each remaining unit to find out if it survived the pursuit in hostile territory. Two six-sided dice are used. If any Roman or auxiliary unit is compelled to leave the map during the battle the Roman player has to throw saving dice to check if it survived to reach a Roman settlement.
To reach safely a Roman camp or settlement a cavalry unit needs a dice score of 7 or more, if it is less the unit is eliminated; for a light infantry unit and skirmishers the needed dice score is 8 or more; for heavy infantry – 9 or more; no saving dice for scorpions, they are always eliminated; if a leader retreats separately the needed dice score is 6 or more; if a leader retreats with a cavalry or infantry unit the needed dice score is reduced by 1, meaning 6 for cavalry, 7 for light infantry and skirmishers and 8 for heavy infantry; if a leader is wounded the needed dice score is increased by 1 regardless if he retreats alone or stacked with other unit; if the retreating unit is routed the needed dice score is increased by 1 regardless of the type, meaning 8 for cavalry, 9 for light infantry and skirmishers, 10 for heavy infantry. Depletion does not affect the dice score;
The surviving units from IX legion and the auxiliaries may participate in the battle of Bannaventa. The depleted units will fight with their original combat factor, but the routed units will start the battle as depleted. Eliminated units will not take part in the battle. It is advisable the players to keep safe their depleted units, thus they will be restored to their original status for the next battle.
If neither player fulfills the victory conditions there are three options:
The IX legion may withdraw without saving dice and spare the remaining units for the battle of Bannaventa.
Boudicca may withdraw to wait for the reinforcements which will join her at Bannaventa.
Both sides may resume the fight for another 24 turns with the same conditions. Before the new battle both players may redeploy their forces without advancing from the positions they have reached at the end of the first day.
The victory conditions for the second day of the battle are the same. If at the end of turn 48 neither side fulfills the victory conditions the Romans must retreat due to lack of supplies.
Battle balance slightly favors the Britons but both sides have chance for victory.
Battle of Mona Insulis
Battle order of the Briton army
It is presumed that only part of the Briton army was on the battlefield when the Romans debarked and the Britons will receive reinforcements on turn 13.
Cynbel Decleangli tribal chief;

Cadeyrn Ordovices tribal chief
Ordovices BI (1-2); Ordovices LI (1-4), Briton CH (11-12 from C:CoG);
Deployment of the Briton army – anywhere on level two;
Briton reinforcements arriving on the battlefield on turn 13
Corraidhin Briton chief, Cynwrig Briton chief
Briton BI (1-4); Iceni BI (12-17); Briton LI (2-4, 7-11, from C:CoG); Iceni LI-S (6-7); Iceni LC (7-8); Briton CH (13-14 from C:CoG);

The boats are not enough to transport all units, so after debarkation they have to return to the southeast edge of the map to transport the remaining units;
Deployment of the Roman army – on the hexes on the southeast edge of the map;
All Briton chiefs are killed or wounded or compelled to leave the battlefield;
If 20 of the 33 infantry and cavalry units are eliminated or routed (even if rallied) or compelled to leave the battlefield, the skirmishers are not counted;
If all cavalry and infantry units of the vanguard are eliminated or routed (even if rallied) or compelled to leave the battlefield before the arrival of the reinforcements, the skirmishers are not counted;
The Roman victory will temporarily end the resistance of the Welsh tribes and Paulinus has to march against Boudicca for the final battle at Bannaventa.
The Britons win if:
Paulinus, both legates and both tribunes are killed or wounded, or have left the island at the end of turn 24;
If 14 of the 20 cohorts of the XIV and XX legions are eliminated or routed (even if rallied), or have left the island at the end of the 24th turn, scorpions and auxiliaries are not counted;
In both cases the Roman army has to retreat to fight Boudicca at Bannaventa.
The surviving units from XIV and XX legions and the auxiliaries may participate in the battle of Bannaventa. The depleted units will fight with their original combat factor, but the routed units will start the battle as depleted. Eliminated units will not take part in the battle. Paulinus’ army will be joined by the units of the IX legion and the auxiliaries which have survived the battle of Camulodunum;
If neither player fulfills the victory conditions there are two options:
The Roman army may withdraw to fight Boudicca at Bannaventa or the players may resume the battle for another 24 turns. If after the 48th neither player fulfills the victory conditions, the Romans have to retreat to fight Boudicca at Bannaventa;
Battle balance favors the Romans, especially during the first 12 turns. After that the Britons also have chance to win.

Leaders killed at Camoludum will not participate in the battle of Bannaventa. For the leaders wounded at Camoludum, the player who commands them must throw saving dice for each one. If the score is 7 or more the leader has recovered and will take part in the battle, if the score is 4-6 the leader is still wounded, if the score is less, the leader has died from the wounds;
The units eliminated at Camulodunum will not participate in the battle of Bannaventa, the routed units will fight as depleted and previously depleted units will be restored to their original status;
