Hi everyone, Brett here from Breich Games. Space Empires 4X’s detailed combat system, hidden information, and economic decisions are key designs that make the game shine. In digital format, each of these becomes much easier to manage.
(As a reminder, the digital version is now called Space Imperia 4X.)
Economic Bookkeeping
One of the primary advantages of a digital format is straightforward: no bookkeeping! The digital version keeps track of all your income, spend, tech costs, ship costs – everything. This is a major streamline that will make games quicker to play and easier to manage.

Combat System
I love combat in Space Empires 4X. In my opinion, it is better than just about every other 4X board game out there. There is a critical dance – combat class (fire earlier); tactics (beat the defender tiebreaker); and the sequential nature of targeting, i.e., ‘can I kill you before you act’. And, in digital format, managing all of this is much more simple. The digital version calculates the chance to hit and displays combat stats (including Attack and Defense upgrades) all in one screen. And, of course, it prompts the player when their ship(s) are acting. This takes a lot of upkeep away from the player and instead allows them to focus on key combat decisions.

Hidden Information
Another great aspect of Space Empires 4X is the beautiful way in which information is managed. I can see you have a ship there – but what is it? What does it have? Is it mines? Could it be a decoy? Or is it 6 Battlecruisers with Attack 2 Defense 2? What else have you researched? All of these questions are key to understanding how best to secure victory. And, in digital form, the ability to manage this array of information can be very streamlined! We’re working on a set of Known Information screens. Here, you can identify what technologies you know the enemy has, and begin to understand the picture of ‘how much have they spent, and on what?’ This is one of the most exciting features we’re adding because it helps to surface to players – new and experienced – the full picture of the battlefield.
As a reminder, the demo releases on 19 March. It will have a playable ‘Small 2 Player’ map versus 1 AI opponent with just the base game components.

Definitely all the expansions. In addition, could there be a possibility of having a custom sandbox game where I can have a larger map, unlimited ships, and unlimited hex tiles to play a mega game? Just wishin!
