Silver Bayonet Update: What’s in the Box?

SilverBayonet25-ban1(RBM)

Here is a long overdue update for Silver Bayonet.  As you are all, no doubt, well aware, we didn’t hit our desired date for Oct-Nov last year. I decided to push production out because, quite simply, the game wasn’t ready yet.

The team has been working hard to test all of the scenarios to ensure that all of the rules changes have been thoroughly vetted. In the case of the Standard Game scenarios, this is a relatively quick process as they are range anywhere from half a turn to eight turns long using only a portion of the map, and they are easily playable in an evening. In the case of the Campaign Game scenarios, this is proving a little more involved as they range from eight to 39 turns using larger areas or the entire map, and they are far more involved in terms of additional rules such as Patrols, Hidden Movement, Helicopters, etc. We are working hard to make sure that this game exceeds expectations in all categories.

The Vassal module for Talon!

Into the Wild Blue Yonder

When it comes to shilling, not only am I not in the same league as Lee Brimmicombe-Wood, I don’t even play the same sport!  But despite the lack of news, there has been substantial progress on Wild Blue Yonder  during the past few years.  A major proportion of the project has been designing and testing the campaigns to ensure that the right mix of aircraft cards is included in the game.  That process is far enough along that we can now show you a final list of the aircraft that will be included.

OK new Talon Puzzle! This time I decided to throw the Terrans some love by way of Fighters. FTRs are extremely powerful. They are the most maneuverable ship in the game and can be deadly once they get locked in behind a capital ship. Unlike other ships they don’t generate their own AP and instead rely on their Carrier to transmit AP. Typically 4 FTRs are launched with every CV.

Falling Sky: Politics in Gaul

C&CNapoleonicsbn1(RBM)

The COIN Series is similar to Card-Driven Games (the CDG System) in leveraging event cards to bring political, diplomatic, economic, and other non-military aspects into a wargame without muss.  (Consider, in this regard, the lineage from 1994’s “We the People” by Mark Herman to today’s Liberty or Death.)  Falling Sky,is no different.  Here we preview a few of the events in the deck that help depict the politics and diplomacy of 1st-Century BC Gaul. Background notes are from the game’s Playbook (thanks to additions from Marc Gouyon-Rety). Citations are from Caesar’s Commentaries on the Gallic War in the format [book.chapter] with quotations as translated by Carolyn Hammond, Oxford University Press, 1996.

A Playthrough of Comanchería

ComancheriaP500Banner1b

Joel Toppen and Mike Bertucelli asked me to play through the tutorial for Comanchería to assist in proof reading. For me it was a rare treat to learn to play this much-awaited game with adult supervision and possibly get a few games in before it gets printed!

The game covers 4 historical periods from 1700 to 1875.  You make the decisions of the Comanche people trying to survive and thrive in the face of numerous threats and opportunities.

I get to show off a bit of our Vassal module here; exciting stuff.  Stefano Tine’ and I (but mostly him) have been hard at work crafting the module. The pics here are of a work-in-progress so they may not reflect the final version… For instance: Please use your imagination and pretend that BC Victory is DD Predator from before. Talon DD’s aren’t fully operational yet.

When we last left Guderian she just had a barrage of Missiles fired at her from BC Honor.
